We look forward to hearing from you!
As with most studies, we have a specific target group that we want to examine more closely within INCLUDE. To find out whether you meet the conditions for participation, please fill out the questionnaire below. Your details will not be stored and your participation is non-binding. This check is only intended to give you an initial impression of whether you fall into our target group and whether participation is possible.
Information: The eligibility check is still in progress. As soon as it is complete, it will be available here.
We apologize for the delay.

Participation involves three to four visits to the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health (DSBG) in Basel to carry out tests. These involve physical examinations, completing questionnaires, and interviews. All data collected is subject to strict data protection guidelines and will not be passed on to third parties. In addition to the tests here at the DSBG, you will be given small measuring devices to wear for a week and will be asked to make a short diary entry in the evenings.
Your participation is completely voluntary. If you do not wish to participate in this research project or wish to withdraw your participation at a later date, you do not need to provide any reasoning. Your treatment and care is guaranteed regardless of your decision.
Registration consists of a five to ten-minute online questionnaire. In this questionnaire, you will answer questions about your health and provide your contact details. Initial clarifications regarding the study criteria will also be made. This registration is essential for us, as it allows us to contact you to provide you with information about participation and to arrange appointments.
During the initial visit, we will examine your current health status. On the one hand, we will examine various physical characteristics such as your resting blood pressure, weight, lung function and resting ECG. On the other hand, we will use questionnaires to collect information about medication and respiratory diseases. Our goal is to get an idea of your current health status and to lay the foundation for the next steps.
During the course of your participation, you will take two walks in Basel-city on two different days. The guided tours will last 20 to 30 minutes each. Various types of air pollution will be tested, as well as walking speeds of 3 km/h and 5 km/h. Before, during and after the tours, tests will be carried out on lung function, pulse and blood pressure, as well as other examinations. These two tours are a central part of the study.
The second core part of the study is the so-called study week. During this week, you will carry small measuring devices with you independently in your everyday life. This includes the following measurements:
Here we would like to learn more about your everyday life and the conditions you are exposed to on a daily basis.
In a voluntary interview (1-2 sessions of 60-90 minutes), we will conduct photo-assisted interviews with you. During these interviews, you will talk about your experiences of walking in the city. You can also bring pictures with you to illustrate your experiences.
These interviews can also be conducted without the walks and measurements. You do not need to have participated in the rest of the study.
Our team is located in the new building of the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health (DSBG) near the St. Jakob Stadium. The walks will also take place in this area. You can find more information on how to get there here.
